Williams, confectioner, for Sunday trading, the magistrate held that the law did not allow the selling of soft drinks on Sunday. Ho convicted and fined defendant a nominal amount. TRAMWAY LINESMAN’S DEATH. DUNEDIN, December 6. At an inquest concerning the death of Charles Neville, foreman linesman of the city trams, who was killed while rescuing a linesman caught on a live wire, the evidence showed that death'ivas due to injuries to the head and chest. A verdict of accidental death, there being no negligence on the part of the department, was returned. HARBOUR IMPROVEMENT., WAIROA, December C. The Wairoa Harbour Board to-day accepted the tender of C. P. -Pulley for river improvement work. The cost will be .£79,061). Mr Leslie H. Reynolds is tho engineer. AUCKLAND TRAM FATALITY. AUCKLAND, December 26. Tho inquiry into the death of the little girl Plora May McDonald, who was run over ,by : a tramcar on November 25tb, was concluded to-day. Tho jury brought in a verdict ’to the effect that deceased was killed by being run over by car 102, and that the motormau did- not keep a proper look out. TARANAKI OILFIELDS. NEW PLYMOUTH, December 6 Mr- H. J. Brown, chairman of 1 tho British Empire Oilfields Company, Ltd., who arrived here from London last week, intimated to-day that ho is so satisfied with tho potentialities of the New Zealand oilfields in the neighbourhood of New Plymouth that ho cabled for Mr J. D. Henry, who inspected the above fields early this year, to ’leave England immediately.. Ho had received a reply to the effect that Mr Henry would arrive here on January 16th. Mr Brown stated that he had "cabled to the company's ■ advisory engineer to endeavour to make tho' necessary arrangements, to proceed to. New Zealand early in the new year.
