OHAKUNE BOROUGH
FIRST ELECTION OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL.
The election for the first Mayor and councillors for the newly-formed borough of Ohakune was held at the Town Hall on Thursday, great interest being manifested in the event. There were twenty candidates for the nine councillors’ seats, and it was midnight before the results could be declared.
The Mayoral contest resulted in the election of Mr J. A. Butler, who defeated Mr T. H. Kiely. The councillors returned are Messrs G. J. Goldfinch, W. S. Baird, J. H. Craven, T. A.-Birth, W. Jopp, A. H. Wilkie, W. D. Davidson, D. Mclntyre and F. C. Allen. Unsuccessful candidates—Messrs Blackburn, H. Copeland, R. Heald, R. J. Lyttle, J. McDonald, A. D. Nelson, C. W. Ritchie, T. Skinner, J. Spink, A. W. Tatton and H. AValsh.
