OBITUARY
MR HENRY BROADHIJRST. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright LONDON, October 11. The death is announced of Mr Henry Broadhurst. Mr Henry Broadhurst was born in 1840, and educated at the village school near Littlemore, Oxfordshire. Ho worked in a blacksmith’s shop; then as a stone-mason till 1872. Ho became secretary of the Labour Representative League in 1875, and was afterwards secretary of tho Paxliamentary Committee of tho Trades Uoion Congress, a position which he resigned in 1890, owing to ill-health. For over twentyfire years (1880-1906) he was a member of the House of Commons, sitting for Leicester and other constitutor oies as a LabourLiberal. Ho , was Under-Secretary for Homo Affairs from February to July, 1536. Other appointments, such as factory inspectorships. ho refused, hnt he was a member of a number of Royal Commissions. A keen golfer, he founded links_ at Cannes and Sheringham, besides helping to establish the Tooting Common Club. H© was an alderman of the County of Norfolk, a poor law gnardlaai of the Erpington Union, and a member of the Cromer Urban District Council. H© wrote, with Sir Robert Reid (the present Lord Chancellor) a "Handy Book on Leasehold Enfranchisement,” and his own autobiography.
