BAPTIST CONFERENCE
STANDING COMMITTEES ELECTEDPRESS ASSOCIATION. NAPIER, October 10. Tho Baptist Conference was continued to-day. The chief business was the election of officers and standing committees. Tho Rev. H, Knowles Kemptou (Auckland) was elected president; Mr J. Q. Fraser (Christchurch), vice - president; Rev. R. S, Gray, secretary; Mr A. F. Carey, treasurer; Rev. Alfred North, financial secretary. The Rev. Alfred North (Ponsonby) was appointed home mission superintendent and travelling organiser at a salary £250 and expense*. A students’ committee was elected comprising the Revs. A. Williams (convener), J. J. North, J. K. Archer, A. S. Wilson, and Mr A. S. Adams. Mr H. H. Driver was re-elected editor of the “New Zealand Baptist," and the Rev. E. H. Hobday sub-editor. A committee, consisting of tho following, was set up to consider and formulate a scheme for the removal and settlement of ministers, namely:—Revs. K. Kemp* ton, Buckingham, J. J. North, H. Elliott, R. S. Gray, and I’. H. Radford, Messrs G- Carson and H. M. Smeeton. The following were elected a Sunday school committee: —Messrs W. G. Shearer (convenor), W. Donovan, B. Edwardes, T. F. Thompson, R. O'Connor, and F.' C. Gray. The Rev. K. Kempton was elected convener of the board of introduction and advice. The Rev. T. Kirk Ewen was elected union ‘preacher, and the Rev. Howard Elliott deputy-preacher. A literature committee was appointed, consisting of the following: Rem'. Howard Elliott (convenor). A. North, W. R. Woolley, and Mr R. S. Abel. Tho annuity fund committee was reappointed, with Mr-R. S. Abel as secretary, and Mr 11. M. Smeeton as treasurer. The manse fund committee was re-elected with the addition of Mr T. E. Toneycliffe (convener). Tho Rev. IV.- B. Woolley was re-appointed registrar and recorded. Messrs T. E. Whitton and Heaton Barker were appointed auditors. An executive committee was elected, consisting of tho Revs. Kempton, Kinwood. senr., J. J. North, J. IC. Archer, A. S. Wilson, R. S. Gray, T. A. Wil-_ Hams, C. D. Gardiner, C. Dallaston, W. Hay, E. H. Hobday, and A. North, Messrs Smeeton, Toneycliffe, Carson, Cathrie, Hobcy, Mackie. Chedgy, A. F. Carey, Fraser, Milligan, Adams, and Driver. . ...... Tho conference is appointed to sit next year in Christchurch. In the evening a Home Mission demonstration was held, the chair being taken by Mr A. ■F- Carey, of Christchurch. Speeches were delivered by the Rev. Guy Thornton (Ohakune), Mr Eric Evans (Whangarei), and the Rev. A. S. Wilson. Tho story of work in the back-blocks proved very interesting, to' tho large congregation. The annual meeting of the Baptist Young Women's Bible Class Union -.vas held this afternoon. Mrs Archer, viceprosident, presided. Reports were received from the various classes. Mrs Hoby (Wellington) was elected president. It was decided that the funds of the union be divided between home and foreign missions.
