MANAWATU CHAMPIONSHIP

LADIES' OPEN MEETING COMMENCED YESTERDAY.

MISS GOEKIE WINS THE MEDAL HANDICAP.

PKES3 ASSOCIATION. PALMERSTON. October 11. The Manawatu ladies’ open golf championship was commenced to-day at Hokowhitu in fine weather. The Medal Handicap was won by Miss Gorrie (Auckland), 97, 17—80; Miss Mason being next, 105, 24—81; and Mrs G. Williams (Masterton) third, 86, 2—84. Following is the result of the first round of the championship (match play):— Mrs Williams beat Miss E. Pierce, 5

and 3. Miss McLean beat Miss Campbell, 3 and Mrs Moore beat Miss R. Gorrie, 1 up. Miss A. Pierce beat Miss Hamlin, 3 and a. Hiss Gould beat Miss Tweed, 3 and 2. .Miss Wilson beat Miss Sybil Abraham,

7 and 5. Miss G.,Gorrie beat Miss Wray, 6 and 4. Miss Cooper beat Miss Fisher, 7 and 5. Miss G. Gorrie went- out in 36, and did the 14 holes placed in 64. Miss Sybil Abraham won. the drive with 188 yards 1 foot, Miss Wray being second with 173 yards and 18 inches. In tho approach and putt Miss E. Pierce (Auckland) won. In the championsliip to-day Miss McLean meets Mrs Williams. Miss A. Pearce meets Miss Moore, Miss R. Wilson meets Miss Gould, Mis G. Gorrie meets Miss Cooper,
