DAYLIGHT SAVING
MR BIDET'S MEASURE. The Petitions Committee, reporting on« petition praying that the Daylight Saving Bill bo allowed to pass through Parliament, recommended that , the petition ba referred to the Government for consideration. The committee added that there was no evidence to show, that the Bill would be of any advantage to the people in the country districts. When the report was brought down Ml F. .11. B. Fisher moved, as an amendment, that the petitions be referred t« the Labour Bills Committee, before which the Bill was now. "It is not before any committee at all this year," corrected a member. "Ob," said Hr Fisher, "I misnnder stood the position." (Laughter.) Mr Poole said the matter was o) so much importance that the Government ought to take the Bill up and put it through. Mr Pearce, a member of the committee, said that the reference of the Bill to the Government was only carried on. . the easting vote of the chairman. Ho with half the members of the committee were satisfied that the daylight saving proposal would be against the interests of the great body of country people. The committee's report was adoptc,
