SCULLING MATCH
JACK ARNST DEFEATED ALBANY FINISHES FOLK LENGTHS AHEAD. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright LONDON, October 9. Albany, the English sculler, defeated J. Arnst, brother of the champion, in a sculling match on the Thames, by four lengths. Albany was the favourite. At Middlesex station he was clear by halt a minute, and led by eight lengths at Barnes. Ho won as ho pleased by four lengths in 22min 50scc. A PRESS TRIBUTE TO ARNST. (Received October 10, 9.15 p.m.) • LONDON, October 10. The press pays a tribute to Arnst, and says that, though outclassed throughout, he displayed rare pluck and determination, and that Albany’s victory was due to good generalship and superior watermanship.
Tlie race was for £IOO aside. Jack Arnst has taken part in several scnllinff handicaps, but the race just decided was his first match. He wont to England as trainer for Pouwell iu tho latter® recent match with Barry. He lias been successful as a cyclist, bat has not given promise of becoming a sculler of, the first order, neither, it may be added, has Albany.
