EUGBY YESTERDAY'S GAMES. ■ TRAMWAY (26) v. ORIENTAL (0). A one-sided game on the No. 2 ground of the Athletic Park 'yesterday resulted in Tramways defeating Oriental by 26 points to 0. The following scored tries for Tramways:—Cooper (1), Clark (X), Bowe (3), Salvin. (1), Alelxander (1). Clark converted three tries, and Bramley one. Mr J. F. O'Sullivan was referee. ’ ARTILLERY (13) v. ATHLETIC (11). A fairly good game between Artillery and Athletic terminated favour of the former by 13 to 11. For the winners Chapman and Irvine scored tries, Slattery kicked a penalty goal and potted'a goal. Gosling and. The first Ranfurly Shield match of the' season was played to-day between the Auckland and (South Auckland Rugby football representative teams, before an attendance of about 2,000 people. The Auckland (team won by 21 points 5, and thus retained the shield. The visit-, ing forwards beat the local pack in the early stages, but towards the end tired, and were overrun in the last quarter. The Auckland team did not play up to form until the last ten minutes, when they scored a point a minute. Taranaki, was played here to-day in good weather, and resulted in a win for the visitors, after an even and interesting game, by 12 points to 3. The local men quite held their own, and had hard luck in not making the score more in keeping with the game. It was not long before a- score was registered, Roberts crossing the line for the visitors. Before half-time was called two more tries were added through the. agency of Taylor, but none was converted. In the second half Rawiri, -the Horowhenuf* wing-three-quarter, played a brilliant game. * WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last night. There were present Messrs S. Brown (in the chair), W. Perry, E. Little, W. Hardham, W. F. Hornig, J. Sweeney,,. J. O. Bums, A. B. Wilson, and E. O. Hales. THIRD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP.

The Oriental Club applied for a final match for their third class team against Porirua to decide the championship. It was urged that Porirua were only one point ahead of Oriental, and that Porirua had won most of their matches by default. The application was refused. REFEREES’ TROUBLE. The secretary of the Referees’ Association wrote that the association accepted the union’s offer of a conference to discuss matters at variance between the two bodies. It wps decided to meet the referees’ representatives next Wednesday night. TARANAKI MATCH. The Taranaki Union, wrote applying to have Mr E. McKenzie, of Wairarapa, appointed referee for the representative match with Wellington next Saturday.— The union decided to reply suggesting that a local referee bo selected, forwarding the following names;—Messrs W. .1. Meredith, H. E. Card, T. H. Jones, LSimpson, C. Atkinson, A. E. Neilson. REPRESENTATIVE DATES. It was decided to ofier Marlborough a match at Blenheim on September ISth.

The same date was suggested for a match with Wairarapa at Wellington. An application from Bush Districts for a match.at Pahiatua was refused. THE CUP FINAL.

It was decided to; charge an admission fee of Is for tho match between Oriental and Athletic on Saturday week. It was urged in support of this proposal that the union was in need of tho funds, and that the majority of tho public would pay the extra money freely. At the end of 1914 the union would lose the lease cf the Athletic Park and would have to pay a very much increased rental. Also the buildings were falling into disrepaii*, and expenditure on them would be necessary. The position was a serious one, for the future of football in •Wellington depended on the union's ability to hold tho Athletic Park. This they could not do unless they had something like ,£IOOO to credit at the end of 1914. THE REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. Some alterations have become necessary in the representative team to play Taranaki on Saturday. Fred Roberts and H.
