THE MINES BILL WOMEN NOT TO WORK AT PIT BROWS. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received August 4, 3.20 p.m.) LONDON, August 3. Despite the opposition of Mr C. F. G. Mastcrman, Under-Secretary for Home Affairs, an amendment to the Mines Bill, moved by Mr A. B. Markham, Liberal M.P. for the Mansfield Division of Nottinghamshire, excluding women from working at pit brows, was carried in committee in the House of Commons. A deputation of pit brow girls has arrived in London to 'interview Mr Winston Churchill, Home Secretary, on the subject. ( A WOMEN’S QUESTION. MINISTER AND PIT-BROW GIRLS. (Received August 4, 8.50 p.m.) LONDON, August 4. Mr C. F. G. Mastermau, replying to the pit-brow' girls’ deputation, said that he regretted the committee’s action, which showed the necessity for women to have votes. The question was essentially one for women to decide. Therefore a men’s Parliament, elected by men, had no right to prohibit women from pit-brow work. Ho had Mr AVinston Churchill’s authority to say that an effort would be made to alter the committee’s decision.
