POSITION REGARDING TAHITI. STATEMENT BY SIR JAMES CARROLL. In the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, the leader of the Opposition asked , the . Acting-Prime Minister if he had seen tho cablegram stating .that Germany had proposed to France the cession of Tahiti to the former power.- Sir James Carroll replied that the Government was taking steps to got exact information on tho matter and to ascertain the truth or otherwise of tho report. He added that it might bo necessary to communicate with tho sirtor dominions with a view to tho taking of joint action.
