The Aoting-Primo Minister, Sir James Carroll, will visit Levin on Monday to attend a gathering in honour of the member for the district, Mr - W. H. Field. Tho funeral of Mr Thomas Tinucane, who for eleven years was a senior attendant at the Mental Hospitals, Mount View and Porirua, took place yesterday afternoon at the Mount street cemetery, and was attended by a large number of friends. Deceased, who was only thirtythree years of age, was very popular. Among the wreaths sent was one from the staff of the Mental Hospital and one from tho Wellington Working Men's Club.

The Marquis of Linlithgow, son of tho late Lord Hopetoun (first GovernorGeneral of Australia), ’ arrived at Auckland yesterday by the Marama from Sydney, accompanied by tho marchioness. He came out to Australia to bo present at the unveiling in Melbourne of a statue to his late father, and visited every State in the Commonwealth excejit Queensland. Ho first. visited Australia eighteen years ago, and is much struck by its prosperity now. Waitcmata harbour, ho considered, was greater in soenio beauty than Sydney harbour; After viewing Auckland, the visitors reembarked on the Marama and contemned on their journey. Tho death occurred yesterday morning, at tho Club Hotel, of Mr Sydney Scott, merchant, aged fifty-live years. Mr Scott, whose end came unexpectedly, had been a resident of Wellington for about thirtyfive years. With his brother, the late Mr M. Scott, ho established a wholesale fancy goods business, Messrs Van Stavaren Bros, being ' subsequently , taken into partnership. Severing his connection with the firm, he’ continued in business on his own account. Mr Scott was a native of Derby, Hngland, unmarried, and has relatives at Home. During his long residence in Wellington, although of a retiring disposition, ne made many friends, who will receive the news of his deatu with sincere regret. , * Mr J. S. Alexander, who died on Monday night at Dunedin, was for over tfiirty-uvo years Grand Treasurer of tho independent Order of Oddfellows for blow Zealand. Ho had attended every session of tlio Grand Lodge during that time in all parts of the Dominion, and in May last, with two others, represented Kew Zealand at the Grand Lodge of Australasia at Melbourne. Singularly enough., Mr Alexander is (says a soutneru contemporary) the second delegate to that conference who has since died, tho other being Mr W. Eobertson, of Hobart. The Grand Secretary of the 1.U.0.i'. for Lew Zealand (Hro. Wm. Bold) is a son-in-law of tho deceased.

J, Dormer, of Auckland, was honoured at the Drill Hall, Auck-land,-on Wednesday, in the presence of the Auckland Garrison, when the Uflicor Commanding the Auckland Military District (Colonel G. O. B. Wolfe) presented him, on behalf of the War Office, with the Imperial meritorious medal, carrying with it an Imperial annuity of Jilt). Captain Dormer has (says the " Star ”) had a long and. honourable service. Twenty-seven years ago he served in the 14th Hegiment, and was then recommended for the present decoration. He commenced service in tho Burmese war in 1852-3, and was next in the Crimean war, in 1854-5, and -was wounded in the night attack on tho sea forts. In 1863-0 ho saw service in the Maori war, and now holds six medals.
