on agriculture, Japan being a country of small farms aud intensive agriculture. Were it not for the fact that crops are raised twice, thrice, and even .four times a ypar, the tenants could not exist. At a dairy factory meeting in Hawke’s Bay, a supplier asked whether putting water in the milk' would affect the test. Ho was informed that it depended upon the time of the year, and at some periods doing so would undoubtedly -affect the test. He rather staggered those present by stating that he had put water in his milk and it had not affected his test. Arrangements are being made by the agricultural supervisor for the War ngauui Education board (Mr Janie.-, Grant) for about fifty boys from Wanganui and Feilding District High Schools to spend a week at Mr E. Short’s Armadale stud farm, at Cheltenham, in October next, in order to give them practical instruction in the knowledge of farm animals. Mr Short has cordially agreed with the request, and has promised to. send along a batch of sheep, as only cattle and horses are kept at "Armadale.” Ho also suggested that the boys should be made to take off their coats and do some of the worn themselves. Early last month Mr T. S. Little, of "Rooklea,” Ngapara, forwarded a consignment of Border Leicester sheep to Mr D. M. Aitken at Cranbourn e, victoria (says the Oamaru Mail”). In the shipment were sixty two-shear selected ewes, three special stud ewes, two owe hoggets, two ram hoggets, and one shearling ram, “Ironside," a first prizetaker at Oamaru and Dunedin last year. Mr Aitken exhibited several of these at tile Victorian Sheepbreeders’ Show- in Melbourne on the 2Sth iast., an exhibition that attracts the best sheep of the British breeds from all over the Commonwealth, and a cable conveys the intimation that the Ngapara sheep secured all the first prizes,, including (he two grand champions.
