HOW SHEFFIELD SUFFERS

■ The Cutlers' Company of Sheffield have succeeded in inducing the German, Patent Office to strike from the register a trade mark placed there by a bolingen manufacturer. It was registered in respect of cutlery, saws, and twist drills, and consisted of the word ''SHEFFIELD 1 printed as hero shown, that is, all in. capitals except the last letter, an 'o which was small. The Cutlers' Company held that such a mark was calculated to lead buyers to believe that they were getting Sheffield goods, and the German Patent Office authorities decided to cancel the registration. Nearer home, the Cutlers' Company have obliged a'London firm of merchants to discontinue the announcement that they have works in Sheffield for the manufacture of steel, a statement which was quite untrue.

A. novel ceremony took place at the Union Church, Brighton, where there was witnessed a local woman suffragist's wedding. Suffragist friends gathered in force, carrying tricolour flags. The distinctive features of the wedding were the exchange of rings between the bride and bridegroom, and a special wording of tho marriage service, which expressly intimated that the bride and bridegroom were united on the ground of perfect equality as comrades and helpmates, whatever circumstances life might open to them. The officiating clergyman was tho Rev. Rhondda Williams, immediate successor at the church of the Rev. R; J f . .Campbell.
