Tho Waitara Borough Council has just received the result of the_ arbitration pro©codings in connection with th.e prico _to bo paid to tk© Mcpban Ferguson, Steel Pipe Company for carrying out tho waterworks contract. Owing to a variation of tho original agreement tho terms of settlement of tho council’s liability became questioned Tho borough paid £13,823 13s 2d under the certificate of its engineer, but the company claimed £1257 14s 9d moro. The arbitrators did not agree, and it was leit to the umpire, who has decided that the borough should pay £298 14a IM. in full satisfaction, tho coats of arbitration, amounting to £123 2s, to be borne oy the parties equally. 4 , x ~ . .. At a public meeting last night it was unanimously decided to authorise the Borough Council to call for competitive designs lor a town hall, to cost about £4OOO, Business men arc .aggrieved at tho action of the Underwriters' Association in refusing to reduce tho insurance rates in the buaness area.
