CAMP OF INSTRUCTION FOR OFFICERS.

SPECIAL TO THE "TniEß.” PALMERSTON, August 2. His Excellency the Governor and Major-General Godley, Commander of tlio Forces, will visit thd officers’ camp . of instruction at Palmerston on Fri- a day. week. Liouten ant-Colonel Burnett Stuart, D. 5.0., director of military, operations. Major Hughes, D. 5.0., of the New Zealand Staff Corps, and other officers from the Wellington headquarters will -take part in , tho camp. ' Captain Cochrane, of tho Imperial General Staff, arrived in Palmerston this afternoon.. He will bo permanently attached to, the local: headquarters. ' The showgrounds are at present tho v scene of considerable activity in preparation for the camp. A detachment of the New Zealand Royal Artillery arrived from- Wellington yesterday, and under the suxiervision of Regimental - Sergeant - Major Kibblowluto preparations .of - a comprehensive nature are being carried out. About one hundred tents are ’to be erected, divided into staff and officers’ lines, and. complete plans have been made to ensure convenience of accommodation ail'd the discharge of the military routine without hindrance. The-' officers are- very pleased with tlio accommodation afforded by the Agricultural and Pastoral Associationfs grounds and buildings, which aro considered quite suitable for future canips as well as tho ono. immediately in view. ■ The association’s. office bpilding .will provide an officers’ cbibrbom downstairs, and the hall on the upper floor wiR he utilised as a lecture-room. The ' agricultural hall will bo reserved for drill in wet weather, and the luncheon room, adjoining will bo set apart for non-commissioned officers’ recreation. Tlio grandstand will contain the;mess-, rooms. The tents are to he , pitched in . the northern comet of the grounds in staff lines and senior and junior officers’ lines. Closely adjacent a washing compartment will bo erected, and in the .shed adjoining a shower bath, and. dressing-room will be fitted up. , In the row of buildings on the* western side of, the grounds there will bo' the engineers’ stores (in charge: of Ser-geant-Major Brownley), staff sergeantmajors’ accommodation, and , quartermas tor-sergeant’s office and stores. One , of the! compartments will,: he .reserved, for a hospital. . ; .’, A By an ingenious adaptation of the pavilions at the back of: the grounds it will be possible,,;to carry on miniature range-shooting in wet or fine weather.
