ADDINGTON. muss ASSOCIATION. CHEISTCnURCIt, August 2. . At Addington there were moderate en* tries of stock 'and, as is usual in the week before the Grand Rational meeting, tbero. were some extra prime lines of fat sheep • and cattle offered, and they made exceptionally good prices. , Beef generally ©old at about the previous week's’ prices. Good young store ewes maintained their values, but. hoggets showed a decline. , 'Urn fat lambs offered were of inferior’ and ordinary ■ quality, and made ■ only *. moderate prlfcee. There was a ; moderate yarding of fat sheep, though, much-larger than last week’s, and the range of quality was very wide, running from inferior wethers and ewes to specially prime show wethers. There was a keen demand on the part of butchers, who had been able 'to obtain only short supplies tho week before, and consequently all classes sold well. The range of prices was: Extra prime wethers to 535, prime 2Hs to 265, medium 15s 6d to 19a 6d. light 13s 3d to Ife 6d. extra prime ewes to 29a 9d,' prime 17s 6d to 23a 6d. medium 14s 6d to 17s, aged and light 5s to 14s, extra prime hoggets 26s to 3tß. extra prime merino wethers 18s 9d to 21s Id. merino owA to 10s.Sd. There was a yarding of 327 head 1 of , fat cattle, of which a : good proportion consisted- of- extra prime lines hold back specially for this sale. They were sent in by local graziers and Amuri stations, and a number came from tho north. Is* land. The average quality was the highest seen at the yards for several years. There was a' good all round demand, and late values were fully maintained. The top price in the market was £2O, made by a bxulock sent by Mr D. Rutherford (Leslie Hills). Steers made £7 ,10s tg £11; 10a, extra to £2O, heifers. £6 to £lO, extra to £l4, cows £5 15e to £9 ss, ahd extra to £l3, equal to 35a for extra prime, 27s 6d to 32a for prime, 24a 6d to 27s for medium, and 23a to "24« for cow- and inferior ; per 1001 b. Veal calves made 4s 6d to £4, according to size and quality. There was a small entry of store 'cattley principally poor sorts, and there Vwis little demand, fifteen-to eighteen months sorts made 445, throe-year steers £5 16s. three. year heifers £4 ss, , and dry oows 21s to £4 6s. •. 1 There , was , a fairly large entry of dairy cows, but, as the springers wore mostly backward, there was not a very brisk sale. Prices ranged from £3 10s to £7 10s, extra to £ll ss.

Pigs formed a medium entry, and all classes were in good demand. Choppers realised 45a to £6, large baooners 52s 6d to 60s, lighter 43s to 48s, equal to 4id to 43d per - lb. Large porkers realised 30a to 38s, smaller 23s to 275. equal to 43d to 5d per lb. Store pigs were entered in. large numbers, but ttie demand was dull, and the sale, was a dragging one. Medium sorts made 14s to 21s. and smaller 7s to 13s, good weanera 8s 6d to 10s 6d, and smaller sorts 3s to Bs.

BURNSIDE. . DUNEDIN, August 2. ’ A great surprise awaited the patrons of Burnside saleyards to-day. Only 81 head of cattle were ■ forward, and a keen sale eventuated. The position was accentuated by tho fact that butchers had only small stocks on hand, and they had to buy or have no supplies. Cattle which ordinarily would fetch £9 or £lO sold at £l3 10s. One butcher doctored that tho memory of no man could recall such a day, when prices had been so- high and tha quality ,of the cattle offered so "inferior. On the average 1001 b of beef realised from 40s to 455. , Sheep.—Three thousand eight hundred and forty-four were yarded, a full yarding; which evoked keen competition throughout tile sale. On the whole prices were on a par with last week's rates. Prime wethers realised , 20s to 245, extra to 28s 9d, medium 17s 6d to -19 s 6d, best ewes to 21a. others 14s 6d to 16s 6d. - Lambs. —Eleven hundred were yardedThere were only a few pens of forwards, and these sold to freezing buyers at Late rates. Best lambs made 13s 3d to los od, medium and inferior 11s to 13a. JOHNSONVILLE. Ahaham and Williams. Ltd., report: A. good yarding of prime bullocks and sheep came forward. Cattle—Extra prune heavy bullocks realised £lO 12s 6d to £IL prime heavy bullocks £9 15s to £lO, lighter £9 to £9 IQs. Sheep—Extra prime heavy wethers realised 21s 6d to 235, good wethers 17s ltd, to 18s 6d, plain ICa to 17s 4d, good ewes 16s 6d, plain 15s 3d. .

MASTKRTON. Dalgety and Co. Ltd. report having held their weekly sale in the Solway (Masterton) yards yesterday. Very little stock came forward.. Ewes in lamb .were not very keenly sought after and vendors had. to reduce their reserves considerably. Good hoggets 'met with a- ready sale, and practically all yarded wore sold under the hammer. Woolly hoggets realised 10s to las 6d, f.m. ewes in lamb to 10s, fat cows to £6 10s, dairy cows to £7 7s 6d.
