MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY

A debate on "Is the State or Municipality justified in entering into competition with private enterprise?” formed the subject for last night's meeting of the Sydney street and Northland P.M. Mutual Improvement Society. The leaders were Messrs Egglestone and Milburn (affirmative), and Messrs Kibherd and Cable (negative). A lively discussion book place, and the meeting decided in the negative. Burins the evening Mrs Grant contributed a. song, and Miss Whitwell a recitation. At next meeting of the society, on the 15th instant, several members will give a short description ■on the different employments they aro engaged in.
