Parliament lias been prorogued till August 23rd. ‘Whatever may be the state of parties then, it as expected that' Mr Wade will again move his censure motion in order to determino the personnel of parties. Mr Neilsen has formally resigned the portfolio of Lands. It is not intended to fill the vacancy until Mr McGowon’s return. A BITTER FIGHT EXPECTED. The by-elections will bo bitterly fought. The leaders on both sides are preparing for an active campaign.

A serious division was caused, in tho Now South Wales Labour party hy the Conversion Act Repeal Bill, introduced by Mr Nielsen with the object of preventing State leascliciUlora from converting their holdings into freeholds. This was doaponsiblo for the resignation of two members, Messrs Bonn and Horne. At a meeting of the caucus on Friday last it was decided to add a clause safeguarding the right of existing leaseholders, whereupon Mr Nielsen announced that he could hot again accept a portfolio - in a Labour Government. ■ Ho made a promise, however, to stick loyally to his party.
