THE SUEZ CANAL
GREAT INCREASE IN TRAFFIC. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyrigiit. (Received August 1, 9-20 p.m.) LONDON, August 1. Tt a aggregate net tonnage of vessels passing through the Suez Canal during 1910 increased by 1,174,471 tons over that for 1909. The percentage ,of British, vessels passing through was 61.3 and of German vessels 14.
The net tonnage passing through the Suez Canal in 1909 showed, a large increase, 1,774,244 tons, on that for 1908, and of .079,093 tons as compared with 1907. The increase in the net tonnage increased the gross receipts to the sum of over .£4,825.000. The number of vessels passing through the canal in 1909 was 4239, of which 2501 bore the British flag.
