FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. A mooting of tho Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was hold last evening, Mr J. S. Jamieson presiding. A letter, wn-s received from a Northland resilient commenting on the cruelty of drivers of carts to their horses on the heights at Northland. Instancing one incident, tho writer wished tho society to take action in tho matter. The inspector said it Was an exceedingly hard matter for him to obtain witnesses of these occurrences to go to court. lie had known of one young man who took the law into his own hands- and administered a severe thrashing to a driver who he noticed illtreating his horse. Frequently when tho speaker questioned men us to cruelly treating their horses they denied doing so. Action will probably bo taken. .Several cases of cruelty were reported by the inspector.
