ADMITTED TO PROBATION
i THEFTS FROM A WAREHOUSE. Air Justice Chapman passed sentence yesterday morning on tho young man Ernest Charles Gregory, who on Saturday morning came up tor sentence on a charge of having stolen certain ' goods from ills employers, Messrs A. S. Paterson and Co. His Honor said that ho had uniformly sent to prison men who had robbed their employers as accused had done, but ho had decided to be somewhat inconsistent in this case, and to admit Gregory' to probation. This course ho had decided upon for two reasons, because he was a young man, and because he was tempted by an older man who had some pecuniary interest in corrupting him. It was to be hoped that accused would show some gratitude to the court by Hying a reputable life hereafter.
Accused was admitted to probation for three years, and he was ordered to make good tho loss his employers had suffered £2 Ss.Sd, in monthly instalments of 10s.’
