raoM otni own cobeespondbnt. The Carnegie Public Library for levin is now fast nearing completion, and when Uniahod it will bo a notable addition to the’ public- buildings of the town. The question of furnishing it with books and other essentials <is now being taken into consideration by the residents. The Mayor (Mr B. R. Gardener) summoned a meeting of ladies on Saturday to consider the matter, and after some discussion it was ■decided that subscription lists should be opened soliciting funds. During th© afternoon Mr W. H. Field, M.P., who happened to bo in Levin, stated that he would bo pleased to donate a sura of £2 2s to the funds, and also on behaK of Mrs Field said that aho would offer a picture. which she would paint herself, to be used in the way of an art union towards tho funds. Those present thought the gift a T©ry : handsome one, and it was proposed, seconded, and carried, that it be accepted, and that a letter of thfi.-nt-o be •eont to Mrs Field.
