SATUBDAY’S GAMES. A's DEFEAT B's: For the purpose of aiding the selector in the selection of a local eleven to play against Auckland for the shield in a. fortnight's time, a trial game was substituted, in place of the senior fixtures on Saturday. After the rain of the past week the grounds were rather heavy, hot the day was perfect The trial game was a fairly spirited contest, the most conspicuous feature being the improved display of the representative team. The junior and third class competitions were continued, the results being as given below. • TRIAL t GAME. ’ A TEAM (4) v. B TEAM (0), The play from the start was decidedly dull, hut as time went on more vim was shown, and the pace,became taster. the first score resulted about half-way through the spelh. The A team forwards came away in a good combined rush, but the finishing stroke hy Salek saw the ball go over the bar. From the bully, however, Con Struck made no mistake with the shot. For a time the whites were aggressive, but they soon' died away, and another goal was quickly added to the A team’s credit. Morpeth, running out of goal, attempted to stay Loader's shot At goal, but ho missed, and Loader was enabled to find the net Davies had an opportunity subsequently, but the ball flew wid© of the, niark . Struck, taking tire ball along, parsed out to Loader, who transferred to Davies and then back to Strack, enabling him to send in a hot shot which hit As Barton's boot and glanced into tho net. , Play in the second .-spell was more evenly distributed, and good work on both sides resulted. Both sets of forward* played well, but there were not many opportunities for scoring, all full-backs performing well. Tho fourth score came late in tho second spell. Loader carried play along and passed infield to G. Strack, whose shot beat Dwyer. Messrs Carver and McKenzie were referees. JUNIOR GAMES. Wesley defeated YJitC.A, by 4 goals to 1. For Wesley P. Strack (2), Bennett and Fawell secured goals, and for Young Men Penney ©cored. Mr E. Coldicutt wae referee. The Dnited-Victoria College A fixture resulted in -a draw, each side scoring two goals. vThe, game was fast throughout, and if any tiling, College had the better-of play. dapeon and Palmer secured goals for United, and Hood and Griffiths scored for the Collegians. United are still leading for the junior championship by three points. Mr J, Gondall was referee. At Duppa street. Government Insurance, after A well-contested game, < defeated Gregg’s by 3 goals to- 2. McClintock (2) and ■Wright were the scorers for Insurance, while Lawrence scored twice for the losers. Mr Powell refereed. Metropolitan defeated Victoria College B by 10 goals to 3. 1 Hutt defeated Kilbirnio Toung Men's Institute by 6 goals’ to 2L Scorers for Hutt were Judd, Webley and Mabey (2 each),'and for the losers Bands (2). Mr S. McDowall was referee. THIBD GLASS. Government Insurance defeated Wellington after a good gam© by 2 goals to nib Selby and Whit© were the scorers. Mr M. Luckie was referee. Victoria College defeated Hutt by 1 goal to nil. Kelly was the scorer for College. Mr J. O. Cusack refereed. - St- Mark's defeated Wjasicy by 8 goals to nil. Sandy (5). Contrary to expectations the two leading teams for the championship (Eaanhlers and Victoria College) suffered defeat. College Old Girls are now leading for the championship by on© point from .Ramblers, and then follow Victoria College {who have yet two games to play to be equal with the others) and. Petone, each with thirteen points. SENIOR. -.College Old Girls, playing against Victoria College, caused sometoing of a surprise by defeating them alter a hard game by throe goals to Utvo, : Misses Woodman, (Jharicsworth, and Shearer ©cored goals lor the winners, and for College Misses Mclntosh and ■Williams scored. Mr G. Carver was referee. Hinemoa, after a good game, managed to defeat Wellington, the score being one goal to nil. Miss H. Stairmand scored. Mr H. Thompson was referee. Petone defeated Ramblers by three goals to two. For Petone-Misses Hopper (2) and Scrimshaw (1) secured the goals, while Misses Reid and C, Cameron scored for Ramblers. Mr Searrcll was referee. - JUNIOR. The final game, in the junior champdonsliip was played between Girls' College and Ramblers, and after an exciting game resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. Both teams gave a good display of hockey, and there were many exciting incidents throughout the. game.
