In tho House of Commons, Viscount WolnKSr, Conservative member for Newton, aakod Air Macldnnon Wood, Under-Seorestary for Foreign Affairs, whether Articlo 5 of tho Angk>-Japan-,‘cso Treaty, which provides that Britain :and Japan shall mutually consult reI goading armed assistance in case of war, permitted tho Japanese Government to inquire concerning tho availability of the Australian fleet in the event of war; -whether snch inquiry has boon iiiiuio; whether the Government intended to reply that the action to be taken by a Dominion in tho event nf war was not a subject for discussion, nr whether tbo reply would bo in ao cordanco with tho full and free consultation stipulated in tho Article. Mr Mackinnon Wood answered; “I cannot reply to a hypothetical question. , The terms of tho treaty are public.”
