JAPANESE DEFEATS SYDNEY BOXER. By Telegraph—Pres.; Association —Copyright. * MELBOURNE, July 13. . Shima, tho Japanese jiu-jitsu export, defeated Howard, tho boxer, in two out of three contests. Howard, who w.as handicapped with eight-ounce gloves, in tho first bout knocked out the Japanese in a minute and a quarter. After a spell Shima throw himself feet foremost at the boxer, and got a scissors grip, nearly breaking Howard’s leg. Ho. repeated tho performance a second time. It was not a (pretty contest, and the general opinion was that jiu-jitsu is unlikely to become popular in a civilised country.
