A Trades Council deputation protested to tho Acting-State Premier against tho proposal to import artisan labour, Mr Watt replied that ho was going to import artisans, but not under contract. Ho was sick of this whining from tho Trades Hall. It was not a sound proposition that a scarcity of labour should bo maintained in order that tho workers /should get higher wages. A boot .manufacturer told the Labour Commission that ho would give a monetary guarantee to employ an extra hundred hands for the nest five years. CITY SURVEYOR’S EVIDENCE. PLENTY OF APPLICANTS FOR VACANCIES. SYDNEY, July 13. Tho city surveyor, who gave evidence to-day, was the first witness at the Labour Commission who did not complain of tho shortage. Ho stated that ho had plenty of applicants for vacancies.
