A CONTRALTO SINGER.
SPECIAL TO THE "TIMES." CHRISTCHURCH. July 13. Hr Harris® sent for Madame Bernstein last week to hear her sing. Madame, accompanied by Mr Hodgson, organist of the Sheffield Choir, sang the recitatives and airs for contralto from "Elijah.” Both Dr Harriss and Mr Hodgson pronounced Madame as the finest contralto heard in the colonies. Hr Harriss offered Madame Bernstein an engagement for thtour, as Miss Heclpy leaves them at Melbourne. but the Christchurch singer was unable to accept the offer.
