MEETING OF COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Eastbourne Uorough Council was held yesterday, Air H. \yShortt, the Mayor, presiding. Xhero were also present Councillors Mutton, Harconrt, Wills, Bannatyne, Organ, Hass, Pilcher, and Mo-rison. On tho motion of tho Mayor it w&s elded that a special meeting be called on Monday next at 12 o'clock for the purpose of taking steps to have the borough brought under the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Act. Councillor Organ moved that the coun» cil contribute to the Hutt Park commil tee a sum proportionate to the ratable value of the borough towards the up* keep of tho Hutt Park—The motion waa carried. 4 A letter was received from the Department notifying the council that all rats caught in the borough should be destroyed.—The letter was received. The bourn clerk submitted a scheme of tree-planting along the Ilona Bay E©* planade, Fabian street, and Main rood, so far ae funds would permit. The council adopted the scheme, providing that the trees should be* planted at a distance of GCft apart. The work is to be put in hand at once. The trees are to be protected by triangular guards made of jamah and wirenetting to be fastened round each guard*
