SERIOUS OCCURRENCE
BRICK WALL COLLAPSES MAN KILLED AND TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED. PEEBS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, July 12. At about 9 o’clock this morning four men, under the control of a foreman, were engaged by Mr IV. B. Scott in the demolition of an old brick wail 10 feel high and 9 inches thick at the back of Smith’s motor garage, between Worcester and Gloucester streets, When tho wall fell suddenly, the debris striking the men and partially covering them. The foreman, Mr J. Phillips, had a remarkably narrow escape, some loose bricks sinking his legs but not with sufficient force to oauso injury. George Biue, a single man, about thirty-sis years of age, wUo resides at 30, Kingsley street. Syuenham. was unconscious when extricated from tho debris, and died before reaching the hospital. John James Came, ,a married man, residing at 26, Lees street, Richmond, aged thirty-one years, was found to have received terrible injuries to his leg, and ho was conveyed to tbe hospital, where it was found tnat immediate amputation was necessary. Charles Littleeot, a married man, aged fifty-one years, residing at 218, Abeideen road, dydenham, was also removed to the hospital, but his injuries are reported to be ress tenons than those sustained by Currie.
