MARINE CASUALTIES
SUNK IN LAKE SUPERIOR STEAMERS IN COLLISION. THREE LIVES LOST. By Telegraph—Proaa Association—Copyright, OTTAWA, July 10. News has been received from Sault Ste. Marie, in Ontario, that the steamer John Mitchell has been sunk through a collision with an unknown vessel on Lake Superior. Three persons were drowned. Thirty-ono passengers were rescued after a thrilling experience. The other ship is stated to bo still afloat. The John Mitchell is a. steel screw ttoamc- of AI6S tons register, built at Detroit in 1907, njul belonging to the Cornell Steamship Company, of Cleveland, United States. THE SANTA ROSA WRECK. SERIOUS CHARGE AGAINST THE OWNERS. SAN FRANCISCO, July 10. It is stated that at least a dozen persons were drowned in the wreck of tho Santa Rosa because tho captain was ordered to keep tho passengers on the ship. The survivors are organising to press the charges against the owners of tho steamer, the Pacific Coast Steamship Company, of San Francisco, which they accuse of sacrificing lives to dollars.'
