A young woman arrived in Wellington in custody from Taihape yesterday, and will be charged in the Magistrate's Court to-dav with, having, on Juno 30th, at Island Bay exposed a child under fourteen years of age in a,manner likely to cause injury to its health. iThe child is stated to have been left at the Home of Compassion. Messrs Baldwin and Hayward, Patent Agents, Wellington, report that they have filed the following applications for patents in Now Zealand, during the week, ending July 11th, 1911; J. .Thomas, England, improvements in smoke consuming and fuel economising apparatus for furnaces and the like; W. Sandy, London, an improved electrolyte for use in electric batteries; J. Clapham. Palmerston North, improvements in devices for preventing horses from running away with a vehicle when unattended.; The Chilton Plusher Co.. Ltd., Auckland, improvements in fl ushers for water closets; Messrs Cuthbert and Fiddy, Gisborne, (device for preventing entry through drain traps or substances likely to cause obstructions in sewer pipes.
