HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING, The monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday. Councillor, M. J. Lvnch presided, others present being Councillors W. Galloway. J. Wakeham, T., Edwards, J. Whiteman, and M. W. Welch. Councillor Galloway reported on tha council’s liability in respect to the fencing along the main road, Whareroa. There! •are about ninety chains of fencing to maintain, and it is now in a dilapidated! .state. It wo© decided to go on with thei work at tho earliest possible moment. In regard to the proposed bridge across tho Hutt river on the Upper tanui road, Mr A, W. Newton wrote stat-i ting ho would furnish estimates as to cost.) It was decided to take a poll of the rate-, payers on tho proposal, for which a loan, will have to be raised, as soon as it was found what tho cost would be. The Health Department wrote enclosing the recently gazetted regulations in re% gard to the eradication of rats.—lt was decided to notify owners of slaughterhouses! and manure works to destroy rats, the council offering to supply the poison. The State Guaranteed Advances Department wrote provisionally approving the loan of £3OO for the Orongorongo road, Wainui-o-mata Tho. Minister of Railways replied to the council’s letter in regard to the carriage of hardwood on the railways, stating he could not reduce the present charges. It was decided to comply with tho requirements of the Public Works and Railway Departments in connection with the. Pukerua-PaekakaJ’iki road. Several complaints were received in. regard to wandering stock, and it was decided to notify tho ranger, and to ask the persons complaining to assist in identifying the cattle. The council approved tHo holding of a conference of the New Zealand Counties’ Association, and Councillor Galloway was appointed delegate. It was decided to hold a special meeting on July 21st to consider the estimates of receipts and expenditure and the rating for the current year.
