RAILWAY IMPROVEMENTS.
SrECIAI, to the “thies.” PALMERSTON, July 11. Following the continued agitation for improvements to the Palmerston North railway station, Mr D- lluiclc,M.P., has received word from the Minister for Railways that important alterations to the local station will shortly bn carried out. A new platform for incoming traffic is to be erected with a Church street frontage, from which passengers will be able to proceed into Mam street via the subway. This will greatlv relieve the congestion at tho old platform, and should prove a great convenience to the travelling public. Increased facilities for shunting and the handling 01 the mormons amount of through trainc are also to he provided, the department ha vim* accuircd several sections adjoin.tag the railway yards for this purpose. New stands for carriers are also to hf constructed, and it is the mi-entron of .he Minister to visit Palmerston m about ten davs’ time to inspect the railway vards before the alterations are proceeded with,
