MONDAY, JULY 10. (Before Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M.) STOLEN DRIPPING. Charles Edwards, a dustman, for whom Mr A. H. Hindmarsh appeared, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having on June 6th stolen one tin of dripping, valued at las, the property of D. F. Matthews. Evidence for tho prosecution was given that the ace-used want to the back of complainant’s shop, and after he had removed the dust it was discovered that the dripping was miasing. Accused later sold a tin of dripping to a secondhand dealer for 4s 2d. Mr Hindmarsh called evidence to show that accused had hitherto Ixrrne an excellent character. Accused was convicted aud ordered to come up. for sentence when called upon, the dripping to be returned to the owner and 4s 2d to be refunded to the purchaser. A TROUBLESOME INEBRIATE. Alex. Clarke pleaded guilty to drunkenness, but denied charges of having made use of obscene language and ci having assaulted Constable AVilletts while in the execution of his duty. After hearing evidence his Worship convicted the accused, who, on the first charge, was convicted and discharged. On the second charge he was fined AS) or twenty-one days’ imprisonment, and on the third fined 40s in default fourteen days. SEAMAN FINED. For having absented himself without leave Carl Tiger, a seaman on the barque Duncrng, was convicted and. ordered to pay costs, 7s, or indefault twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. BREACHES OP PROHIBITION ORDERS. John Chambers was convicted, and discharged for drunkenness and for a breach of a prohibition older was fined £2, or fourteen days' imprisonment. For a breach of a prohibition order Alfred Hausen was fined. 40s, with, costs 7s, or fourteen days’ imprisonment. Christopher Seal was convicted, of a similar offence and was fined 40s, with coats 7s. in default seven days. EXCESSIVE DRINKING. John and James Crease were made the subjects of prohibition orders on the ground of excessive drinking. VAGRANCY. Richard Dunn was convicted of vagrancy, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. MAINTENANCE. For disobedience of a maintenance order Maurice O'Sullivan was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment. A similar penalty was imposed on. Albert Way, who was £1 10s in arrears iu respect to a maintenance order. Mr H. F. O'Leary appeared for complainant. An application by Cecilia Ryan for the yomissiau of arrears under a maintenance order urns granted. AN AGENT’S CLAIM. The hearing was continued of the case in which Alport James Davoy, agent, of Stratford, sued Michael Daniel Murphy, farmer, formerly of Wanganui, for 19s, being commission at tho rate of Al2 10s per cent, on A'3957 17s m connection with a sale of defendant's property at Wcstmero, Wanganui, through the instrumentality of the plaintiff. Mr G- Toogood appeared for plaintiff, Jnit there was no appearance of defendant.' After the original agreement between the parties in respect to the sale of the property had been put iu his Worship gave judgment for the plaintiff for the amount claimed, together with costs totalling .£l2 10s Sd.
