ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY
PRESS ASSOCIATION. - DUNEDIN, July 8. A movement is on foot for the amalgation of the recently-formed Astronomical Society with the Otago Institute, and a mooting of members of the former body is to bo held to consider tho matter. The objects the promoters of tbo scheme have in view are to consolidate tho scientific societies of Dunedin; to secure wider recognition and enhanced standing for tho Astronomical Society; to obtain for their members a wider range of scientific subjects; and a regular and suitable place of meeting. The idea is that tbo Astronomical Society shall become a section of the Otago Institute, and shall have power to elect its own committee, and that moneys now in the hands of the society shall bo handed over to the institute, but earmarked as equipment fund for tho suggested branch.
