THE NAVY LEAGUE

The Navy League Executive Committee met last night at .the Chamber of Commerce, Mr J. B. Ilarcourt being in the chair, and there were also present Messrs J. M. Butt, H. McKellar, E. J, Le Grove, Oscar Borer, and C. W. Palmer.

The balance-sheet for the year was submitted and adopted. The main items were .£l2B 16s remittances to London for books, maps, magazines, etc., ,£9l 17s 9d expenses of public functions, and c£l63 ,]Bs receipts from subscriptions, and .£Bl ;ils 7<l receipts from public functions. A draft of the annual report submitted by the hon. secretary was ordered to be printed. It is proposed to hold the annual meeting at the commencement of the session. Proposals were submitted from the Otago branch of the League as regards the extension of the scheme of seatraining for boys on similar lines to those already recommended by the Wellington branch. It was decided to combine with Otago in the formation of a .deputation to wait upon the Hon. Minister for Marine early in August. .The Canterbury branch submitted proposals for holding a conference of League representatives either at Christchurch or Wellington in August to discuss a number of subjects. The Wellington ■committee, while in sympathy with the 'idea, considered some of the proposals •nere outside the scope of the League. It was, however, decided, that, if prac* 'ticable, Wellington would be represented at any such conference that might be arranged. It was reported by Mr Palmer that he was in touch with Mr Coloncus, of the Bovs* Institute, with a view to a daylight celebration of Trafalgar on the afternoon of Saturday, October ,21st. bn which date the Institute proposes to hold its annual sports gathering. A vote of thanks was passed to Archbishop Redwood, Mr Henry Walton, R.N. (Waikanae), Mr A. P. Seymour (Pioton), Mr A. W. Blanchard, and Miss Alice McKenzie for assistance in the enrolment of fresh members.
