STATE COAL MINE
NEW SOUTH WALES MEASURE MEETS CONSIDERABLE OPPOSITION. By Telegraph — Ptsss Association —Copyright, SYDNEY, July 7. In tho State Assembly Mr A. Edden, Minister for Mines, introduced a State Coal Aline Bill. The Minister explained that the mine was intended fo provide a supply for tho Railway Department and other Government services. There was no intention to enter into competition with private enterprise, but if there was any surplus after providing for the Government services ho would not hesitate to sell coal to tiro public. Charitable institutions would .also be supplied at a cheaper rate. Tile Government was nutting down bores in the Southern and ‘Western coalfields, but if an offer of a suitable mine were made the Government would be ready to purchase. The proposal met with considerable opposition. Air Wade, leader of the Opposition, and other members declared that the whole scheme was Socialism pure and simple, and, therefore, objectionable.
