SCRATCHINGS
Mr W. Matthews, a Victorian breeder, has established a wonderful record with his pen of four Indian Runner ducks. During the last twelve months the four ducks laid 1175 eggs, an average of 293.3 per bird. A few points on how to run an incubator. From the third or fourth day tho temperature of the egg chamber should bo kept at or near the I(J2£ mark. -Don't open the machine oftener than is required to attend to lamp, regularly; set a time for turning eggs, and stick to those times. Don't get anxious. If the temperature should either rise or fall a trifle it does not necessarily moan the hatch is spoilt. If buying eggs from a distance let them Ho for twelve hours before placing in machine. So popular has tho poultry section of the display of tho Department of Agriculture at the Auckland winter show
proved, attracting more visitors than all the other sections put together, that it lias been decided to extent tho noultry display at future winter shows. The expert in charge, Mr F. Brown, has been besieged with inquirers.
