MARVELLOUS ESCAPE

Truly marvellous was the;escape of al young man named Fouget from; being killed l by a train. He was walking along, a railway in Auvergne, France, when suddenly he perceived a train coming round a corner, right on him. Realising that ho had no time to slip on one side or the other, with wonderful presence of mind he threw himself flat on the track between the rails, and the whole train passed over him w-ithout doinp him any harm. He got off with a. few bruises from the fall. Several men were in the neighbourhood, and as soon as the train had gone by they rushed to the spot, expecting to pick up a corpse, and great ivas their relief when they ascertained, that the young man has escaped a terrible death. The train was running at a speed of forty-five miles an hour, but' M. Pouget says that it seemed to him to be going over him at a very slow rate. ■
