MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WEDNESDAY, MAY 2i. (Before Mr W. G. Riddell, S-M.) ALLEGED THEFT FROM THE PERSON. William Booth was charged with having on May 22nd stolen Al 3 from the person of William Laskey. On the application of Chief-Detective Broborg accused waa remanded till May 31st. A TROUBLESOME INEBRIATE. Joseph Kenny was clrarged with drunkenness, with having resisted Conr stable Fischer while in the execution of his duty, ami with having assaulted the constable. He pleaded guilty to each charge. Sub-Inspector Sheehan stated that accused was arrested at 9.10 o’clock on the previous night. lie resisted violently and struck the constable several times. On the first charge accused was convicted and discharged, on the second sentenced to tweuty-ano days’ imprisonment, and on the third sentenced to fourteen days, the sentences to bo concurrent. DRUNKENNESS. George William Jackson, against whoso name there was a long list of previous convictions, admitted drunkenness. Ho was sentenced to one mouth’s imprisonment, a prohibition order, to have effect in the Wellington and Hutt districts for one year, to be issued against him. PROHIBITION ORDER REFUSED. An application by Justinian J. K. Powell for the issue of a prohibition order against Richard Booth was dismissed without the defence being called upon. Mr Machello .appeared for complainant and Mr E. J. Fitzgibbon for, defendant. MAINTENANCE OASES. Charles John Christopher Tabrum, charged with disobeying a maintenance order, was remanded, on the application of Sub-Inspector Sheehan, to appear at Auckland on May 26th. William Hokloy, charged with being the putative father of an unborn child, was remanded till to-morrow. Bail was fixed at .£SO with two sureties of .£23. Mr Willis appeared for complainant and Mr P.-W. Jackson for defendant.
