I'EESS ASSOCIATION. GORED BY A BULL. CHRISTCHURCH, May 23. A man named McCloy was gored by A bull at Lower Riccarton this morning, "'he bull rushed from a road into a paddock. McCloy kept tho gate open for it to pass through, but it rushed at him and injured him severely on the head. FATAL FALL. CHRISTCHURCH, . May 23. In tho timber yard of William White and Co., Addington, to-day, a labourer named Charles Caesar, who had been employed by White and Co. for soma years, was engaged in stacking timber, and while standing on the top of a stack of timber about S feet, high, ho fell off on to the ground, breaking his .neck. Deceased was a married man with a family, and was about maty J®? 1 ?. , _,ge. He was well known in the district. MINER LOSES AN EXE. WAIIII, May 23. A miner named William Hill, aged sixty-three years, employed in the bottom; - of-a winze in one of th© low levels of jf. the Wuihi mine, was. badly injured in - the face by an explosion, it; is thought, of a detonator. Cue of his eyes wa? practically torn out. BODY POUND ON ROAD, THAMES, May 23. The dead body of William Walters, aged forty-five, was found on the road eight miles from Thames. Deceased and a fellow contractor left camp to meet the county engineer. They missed him, and on returning were overtaken by dark> ness. The mate lit a fire and declined to go on. but Walters took a lantern, determined to push on and reach .home. Ho was found next morning in the bod or a creek. It is surmised he tripped and. fell aud received a slight concussion oC the brain, rendering him unconscious, and that he died from exposure, as tho night was an exceptionally cold one. An tho inquest a verdict, to this effect was returned. , . '. INTERNAL INJURIES. AUCKLAND, May 23. Mr W. Bateman, chief engineer of Hi* Auckland Harbour Board’s dredge Hanaai, while repairing the gear in tno bottom of the pit of the dredge, . was caught in a pipe which became twisted round other portions of the machinery. Mr Bateman was in danger of being crushed to. death, when the eerand engineer stopped the engines. . Bateman sustained severe internal injuries,, the nature of which has not been ascertained.
