MILITARY REVIEW

ON CORONATION DAY ARRANGEMENTS FOR TROOPS. Tho most attractive feature of the Coronation celebrations from a spectacular point of view will bo tho grand military review to bo held in Newtown. Park. Troop:; to tho number of 3000 odd will take part, including the junior and senior cadets and boy scouts. Tho headquarters staff of tho DefenceForces has arranged tho programme, and this is being circulated now, so that officers will bo in full knowledge of what is to bo done. The following will constitute the. troops that will take part in the review ; Royal Navy : Landing party with field guns from Cambrian and i’ioncor. Amokura Cadets. No. 1. Battalion, iu command of Lieutenant-Colonel Ct. F, C. Campbell, V.O. : Now Zealand Garrison Artillery, throe companies; No. -1 Company New Zealand ’ Engineers; Officers’ Training Corps. \ No. 2 Battalion, iu command of Lieutenant-Colonel W. G. Duthie : sth Regiment (Wellington) Infantry, m six companies. No. 3 Battalion: Senior Cadets, m, command Ala jo r Ala t lies on College Cadets, three companies; St. Patricks College, two companies; Boys’ Institute, St. Anno s, and St. Vincent Cadets. . . No. 4 Battalion: Junior Cadets, in command of Major Hempleman. No. 5 Battalion: Junior Cadets, in, command of Major McKenzie. No. 6 Battalion: Junior Cadets, in command of Major Bethune. Other corps: Cycle Company, Field Ambulance, Garrison Band, Battalion Band and Pipe Band. As tho General Officer Commanding will accompany his Excellency at the review- tho officers commanding troops will not fall out during tho march past. The headquarters staff will await the G.O.C. at tho saluting-point at 11.20 a.m. THE COMAIENCEMENT. The Wellington troops will bo in command of Colonel E. W. C. Chaytor, officer commanding the Wellington district. They will parade on Coronation morning at-a time and place yet to bo fixed, and march to Newtown Park, where they will form up in line of battalion, quarter column, at 11.30 a-.m. Each battalion will provide an officer and marker, to be at Newtown Park at 10.30 a.m. The Junior Cadets will form up at 11.10 a.m. They will not take part in the march to the park, but it is necessary that they should be in position before the arrival of tho territorial forces. The “A” squadron, 6th Regiment of Mounted Rifles will provide the Royal escort, a troop to be in waiting at Government House at 11.30 a.m. The remainder of tho squadron will parade mounted at Newtown "Park gate at 10.30 a.m. to maintain tho route for his Excellency and tho troops marching in. The D Battery of Field Artillery -will take up a position on the hill overlooking the park at 11.30 a.m'., and they will establish connection with the O.Q. forces at Newtown Park. As his '• Excellency is receiving the royal salute .at noon, the battery will .fire a special salute of 101 guns. Four quick-firing Nordenfeldts are to be drawn from ordnance for this purpose. The R.N.Z.A., under Major Hume, ‘will proceed to Newtown Park at 10 a.m., where they will maintain the route for the Governor and troops from- the entrance gates. The troops will work in co-operation, with the police and civil authorities in regard to, keeping .order and maintaining thr route. '.' THE DRESS. The dress will bo review order. Officers and corps or units not in possession of review order dress will wear tho field service -uniform; medals to be worn with same. All veterans are invited at tho saluting-noint at 11.30' a.m. to form a guard pf honour to the Governor.l Medals will bo worn. Officers commanding battalions of senior or junior cadets are to arrange for the inclusion in their respective battalions of boy scouts, “ bearing inmind,” says the official orders, “that boy scouts are first senior or junior cadets, and where uniformed as cadets they must parade with tho cadets.” The officer commanding tho battery will arrange for the firing of one gun when, his Excellency leaves Government House. A space will be available on the! toi-race of Newtown Park for officers, of tho unattached, reserve, and retired list. who may not be' called op for duty. „ THE PROCEDURE. Briefly, the following will ho the procedure at tho review: At 11.45 a.m. officers and colours take post in review order. On arrival of the Governor at the park gates troops will bo called to attention and arms sloped. His Excellency is timed to arrive at noon. He will be received at the steps leading down on to the green by tho Acting-Prime Minister ‘Hon. J. Carroll), Ministers of the Grown, and the Mayor of Wellington tAIr T. M. Wilford, M.P.). The Ministers and the Commandant of the Forces ‘(Major-General Godley) will proceed direct to the saluting-point, and to received by a Royal salute. Colours will bo lowered, and the band in attendance will strike up “ God Save the King.” simultaneously with the commencement of the firing. The troops will then ba inspected by the Governor and party,, bands playing in tho meantime. On returning to tho saluting-point his Excellency will inspect tho veterans while the troops are massing for the march past. At ,12.20 the brigade, troops will march past in column. The review is timed to conclude at 1.3 p.m. At the conclusion of tho addresses, which will follow the review, troops will ho called to attention, when his Excellency will receive the Royal

salute, troops presenting, and tho bands will play “'God Save the King.” Tho troops will remain until the Governor and party are clear of the grounds. They will” then form route and march to Buckle street drill hall for dismissal. ELSEWHERE. . At stations in'other parts of the Dominion where quick-firing guns or four ■field guns are not available for tho special salute of 101 guns a Royal salute of twonty-one guns will bo fired with a thirty-seconds interval between rounds by two gun sections. Where sufficient troops aro not avail■ablo at any outlying station to hold a review they will co-operate with tho .civil authorities. At Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin, where large musters are expected, the 'Wellington procedure is to ,bo followed as closely as possible. In all cases the officer commanding is to . have sole control of the troops. At the same time, he is to afford every assistance and co-operate in any celebrations initiated by the civil authorities. THE CIVIL SIDE MEETING NEXT THURSDAY. The Mayor has conferred' with the Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. J. Can-oil) in regard to tho civil side of tho procession on Coronation Day. Efforts are to be made with a view to the procession beiag as representative ns possible and the Mayor has decided lo ask footballers and other representatives of sports and games to join in the procession in their sports and club uniforms. Members of friendly societies. Salvation Army, tho Trades and Labour Council, industrial unions, and social institutions of all kinds are to be asked to take part, and the Mayor desires that representatives from all such bodies should’ meet -in his room at the Town Hall at 8 p.m. ou Thursday to discuss, arrangements and appoint a marshal for the procession. Adjoining boroughs, including Hutt and Petonc. will also bo asked to co-operate.
