WANGANUI NOTES

JOTTINGS FEOM THE TRACK. SPECIAL TO THE "TIMES." WANGANUI, Mar 22. Fred Tilley arrived in town this afternoon with Fquitaa, Goodwin Park, Ua-

drone, Mortito, Gaby, and Irish Rifle, all of whom axo looking in capital nick. Plrwai' will not race until the Otaki meeting. This afternoon Te Arai and Winchester were given a round’ over tho big country, both jumping very -well, tho display being the best seen here from any of tho candidates tor the big steeples. TVs Arai haped in very impressive style, and appeared to be going the stronger of tho pair at tho finish. Winchester is evidently in great form, however. An Impression is gaining ground that Wimmera is to bo sot tho task of repeating hi© last year’s performance of winning tho Century Hurdles and the Great Northern, if possible. He jumped the hurdies In capital style again this morn* ing, and looks as fit os he could possibly be got. John did not shape at all well over the hurdles this morning, both Talt and D’Nil pleasing tho touts more than the Century Hurdles candidate, who will need to do a lot better to have any chance on Wednesday. On the strength of his gallop this morning over two miles, Lovell promises to be favourite for tho Steeples. It is questionable whether ho was over in bettor condition. Good accounts have been received as to Mahara, and ho is being sorted out as a very likely •winner, while of the younger division nothing is so much fancied Zantc, who appears to be in great heart. Eurus looks to be in much better condition than when last seen here, and hia jumping this morning was faultless. Appin and Napper had a spin over the schooling huidles this afternoon, both jumping well. Tho probabilities are that Lull will be reserved for tho Grandstand Steeples the second day. The old fellow jumped well with El Dorado this morning, but apparently has - 7 ost some of his old dash. It is reported that Clemora has broken down, and will not bo a starter at the mooting.
