AUCTIONEERS’ LICENSES

TO WHOM SHOULD THE FEES GO? PRESS ASSOCIATION. TIMARU, May 20. A conference of delegates from local councils was held to-day to discuss two matters the county councils have been talking about for somo time past. The first was that auctioneers' license fees should bo paid to the whole district, by going to the Hospital Board, instead of going wholly to boroughs. After discussion with the Timaru borough representatives no decision was reached, except to hold another conference. Small birds was the second subject. On this the counties agreed to reduce “■ho price paid for old birds from one shilling to ninopenco per dozen. Sixpence will be paid for eggs and young birds as before, but no county is to be bound to buy any. It was stated that Geraldine County Council paid .£IOOO. *nd tho Levels ,£689 last year. It is said tho birds have not decreased, but are just kept in cheek. Some of the speakers declared that many are paid for twice over, through supplying poisoned wheat and paying for the poisoned birds. It was agreed that this must cease.
