NEW PLYMOUTH NOTES
May 19. Mr W. Halse (Turakina) is visiting his relatives in New Plymouth. Miss Bertha Matthews _ has returned from a visit to Wanganui. Mr and Mrs Newton King and Miss Betty King returned on Monday from a week’s visit to Wellington. Air and 'Airs Arnold Jones and Miss Jones (England) have returned from a visit to Auckland. Airs Houston (Tauranga) is visiting her sister, Mrs Morris Standish, at Tarnta. Mr and Mrs Monro (Westowu) sail for a six months’ visit to England to-day. ! The. engagement is announced of Air Lewis Webster to Miss Adelo Avery, both of New Plymouth. Mrs Matthews (Pitzroy) gave an enjoyable euchre -party for young people on Monday evening. There were five tables. The first prizes wore won by Miss Beryl Hirst and Master Eric Outfield, and the booby prizes by Miss Dulce 'Baily and Master Cecil Quilliam. Among those present were: Misses Mildred Matthews, Aluriel Blundell, Sybil Fitzherbert. ■ J. Hempton, D. Baily, D. Saxton, Keitha Leatham, Sylvia Bayly,- K. Penn, and G. ' Dod-shun, and Alas tens Matthews, Qiulliam,' Baily, King,, S’haw (2), Outfield, Kyngdou, and Simpson. , On Tuesday afternoon Airs Faber Fookes gave n pleasant afternoon party for Miss Alyra Robinson, who is to bo married nest month to Mr Hansen (Auckland). Sirs Fookes wore a gown of saxe blue eolienne with 'silk embroidery; her sister, Sliss Capol, wore cream j voile with black bat, and Miss Nina I Capel, rose eolienne with black plumed hat; Miss Robinson woro a navy coat; and skirt, hat en suite. During the afternoon a guessing competition Was held. Miss Lucy Skinner winning the prize. A Limerick competition caused a lot of fun. Miss Irene Skinner winning first prize, her Limoiick being voted the best. Aliss Mildred Matthews Won the second prize. There- were present: Misses Fookes (2), Matthews, Skinner (2), Standish, Crawford, Webster, Bewley, Glasgow, L. Thomson, Kyngdon, Roy. Saxton, Chapman (Christchurch), and Leatham.
