SOCIETY SLANDER CASE
BARON DE FOREST SUES HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, March 27. Baron Maurice Arnold do Forest sued Captain. Marcus Henry Milner (an honorary private secretary to the Under-Secretary for War), Lady Gerard, and tho Dowager Lady Gerard (sister of Captain Milnef), for slander contained in allegations that his brutal treatment of her made it impossible 1 for his wife to live with him. Counsel for plaintiff stated that Lady do Forest, who is a daughter of the Dowager Lady Gerard, had confessed to having committed adultery with a young Army officer named Ashcombe, but tho Baron had forgiven her for that. The court decided that the case for tho prosecution had failed, as there was insufficient evidence of publication of the alleged slander. A verdict was given for the defendant, with costs.
