Neither of the big jumping events at the approaching A.B.C. meeting has attracted a good field, there being but seven in the Brighton Hurdles, and nine in the Antnmn Steeplechase. There is a weakness in class as well as in numbers, none of the cracks being engaged. This Maori-owned animal looks just the type for a good crosscountry horse. The pony Emma, who was a great far voxurltc among patrons of Miramar, is doing well under P. Higgotfs guidance at tho Hutt- She Is very game for her inches, and will shortly b© asked to measure strides with, the horses.

The Daunt gelding Moata did not ran up tq expectations at Dannevirke. It is anticipated that he will yet bo seen to more advantage in racing ©vents this season. T. Pritchard will pilot Gold Bird in his hurdle engagements at Awapuni. The gelding is reported to be looking exceedingly well at present. The local sportsman who races as “Mr H. Whitney" is Bending WhOtakura and Mediterranean to the Manawotu meeting. Victor. Cotton has the pair in excellent trim.

Here ward will make his first appearance under his new owner’s colours at the Westland Bacing Club's meeting on the 15th ult. Mr Egan leaves for the West Coast on Monday next.
