Allsop, who has been on holiday, resumed command of the Breeze at Lyttelton on Friday. The Kaiapoi was fitted at Lyttelton last week mth a new propeller with detachable blades, replacing her old one-piece propeller.

The barque Ariel, 85 days but from’ Liverpool, has 630 tons of cargo for Wellington.

For Manchester—2 cases of machinery. The Canterbury Steam Ship Company’s steamer Breeze left Lyttelton on Friday evening for Chatham Islands. Captain Stanley Shotton, cousin of the former master of the Aymeric (Captain Shotton), who mad© several visits to Wellington a few years ago, Is in command of tho Roseric, which carries a Chinese crew. She is a very fine type of cargo boat of 4713 tons gross, built by Hubs ell and Co., Port Glasgow, and engined by Eankin and Blackmore. Greenock. The Roseric is to leave here to-morrow for Auckland, and will sail from - there next Saturday for London. ' NORA NIVEN RETURNS. Shortly before 7 o’clock on Saturday evening the Napier-owned trawler Nora Niven returned to Wellington from the blue-cod fishing station at Owonga, Chatham Islands. Captain Gondic reported that the vessel had brought back 20 tons of frozen blue cod. 15 tons of blue cod, 5 tons of hapuka, and that all hands were well at Owengu. The Nora Niven left Wellington at 11 a.ra. last Saturday week, and had

fine weather until approaching the Chathams, when a very dense fog waa encountered. The fog delayed the boat for six hours, and then cleared. Owcnga was made at 7 p.m. on Monday. The return run was commenced at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, and very heavy southerly winds and high beam sea were encountered till arrival. The Nora Niven is to sail for Napier this evening. SUBEDIT AT MELBOURNE. The Federal-Houlder-Shire liner Soiree (from Liverpool) arrived at Melbourne last Saturday on her way to New Zealand ports. She will proceed to Sydney, next, and thence direct to Wellington. Tho Surrey is due here about the 20th instant, and after discharging part cargo, will sail for Auckland, Lyttelton, and Timaxu with remainder. The Surrey will load in New Zealand, and will sail on March 25th for Avonmouth, THE AOTEA’S CARGO. Cable advice lias been received from Lori* don with reference to the Aotea, which stated/that an nodeavour was being made to arrange to send forward undamaged cargo for the respective ports as circumstances permit by the Arawa (Hue at Wellington on March 21st), by the Kia Ora (due at Auckland in the end of March), and by the Tokomaru (due about the. middle of April) but that information as to quantities cannot bo furnished at present.
