INSPECTOR OF MACHINERY

Alfred Everand Macindoo, late : chief '-engineer of the, Northern Steamship Company's s.s. llarawa, has .been appointed to the Civil Service as an in- , specter of machinery, surveyor of ships,, * examiner of marine 'engineers and land ! engineers and engine-drivers. Mr Macindoe is a native of Auckland, and served: a six years* apprenticeship .with Messrs George Fraser, and Sons, the .well-known engineering firm in AnckI land. He then went to Great Britain - and served four years on the sjs. Gulf of j Martaban, owned by the Greenock Steam* j ship Company- During his employment I on this ship he made voyages to India, j China, Japan, and Australia. Having secured his first-class marine engineer's j certificate, issued by the Board of Trade, he was appointed as chief engineer of the F.s. Wakatere on her maiden voyage to New Zealand, For several years he was chief engineer of this favourite paddle steamer, running between Auckland and : the Thames. His subsequent service has for the most part been on the 6-s-, Ra- ' rawa. He left this vessel a few days ago | to take up his present position. Mr Macj irdoe is attached to the Wellington office of the Inspec6on of Machinery Department.
