WESTPORT, 1 December 4. , , i At Millerton last - night the heavyweight boxing championship of New, Zealand was contested by Jim Mitchell, nf MiIle”lou (champion), and Bill Rudd, ot ;Wellington .(challenger). In Hie . first round tho men mixed things freely. Mitchoiriiaving the advantage. in the second round Rudd, breaking from a clinch, gave Mitchell a couple of severe ri'ght hand; and left hand books at close quarters. , Shortly . afterwards ; he sent him down for eight seconds.and again for nine, the gong saving Mitchell. ~ Tlie third round ’had . not gone far' when Mitchell was,'again, sent to the boards for six seconds, and almost immediately afterward? ho was sent down again and countedput. A 1 ; Other; six-round bouts took place, tho winners being J. O’Neill. Hooker, Larry and Clapperton. Mr Bush .made an efficient referee.
